THE NUMBER, WITHOUT THE MYSTERY

What does WPM actually mean?

One number is useful only when you know what it counts.

01 / SPEED

Five characters make a word.

We divide correctly typed characters by five, then by the minutes you spent typing. That lets long words and short words count on the same scale.

correct characters÷5 × minutes=WPM
02 / ACCURACY

Fixing a typo matters.

Characters that still differ from the prompt count as errors. Correct them before the test ends and they no longer reduce your final accuracy.

03 / PRIVACY

Your text stays yours.

The prompt and your keystrokes stay in this browser. Only your WPM and accuracy history is kept on this device, and you can clear it whenever.

A SMALL PRACTICE PLAN

Steady beats frantic.

Try three short rounds. Keep a pace you can control, notice where errors cluster, then repeat that pattern slowly before chasing a higher score.

01

Warm up with a 30 second test.

Just get a baseline.
02

Repeat one weak pattern.

Go slowly enough to stay accurate.
03

Test again and compare.

Speed is useful; clean speed is better.

QUICK ANSWERS

Before you start.

Does the test save what I type?

No. The app stores your WPM and accuracy history in this browser. It does not save your prompt text or send your keystrokes to a server.

Why is this score different from another typing test?

Tests can use different prompts, timers, error rules, and WPM formulas. This one uses five characters per word and counts only currently correct characters toward net WPM.

Can I use it on a phone?

Yes. The test accepts the device keyboard. A physical keyboard is usually easier for a speed test, but the page works on narrow screens too.
